1. Tell us about the journey since spaceOS’ launch.
Our vision is to realize the digital transformation of the real estate industry and to humanize the workplace with tools to enable human centricity, wellbeing, safety, and healthy experiences. Our mission is to help companies attract, retain, inspire and empower their people by creating dynamic and digitized workplace communities. Through technology, we create places for people to thrive and where human experiences bring people closer together.
The path of spaceOS began in 2015 with a vision of an operating platform that empowers beautiful and seamless everyday workplace experiences. Today, public companies, co-working brands, innovation campuses, and multi-national office portfolios, use spaceOS as their workplace experience platform digitizing life in buildings and across world-class workplace communities.
2. How are you applying transformative technology to create a positive impact?
We are a human-centric technology and the users of spaceOS interact with the spaceOS app daily. That puts us into a position to help make workspaces and buildings more sustainable, by guiding the users to more sustainable practices and sharing data on their energy consumption for instance. Many users want to do something but don’t know what or how. We can fill this gap and enable workspaces to gain a competitive advantage by transforming employees into sustainability activists.
Today spaceOS communicates with access control systems, elevator systems, sensors, and building management systems. Tomorrow spaceOS will communicate with smart city infrastructures to make the life of people in working areas easier, safer, healthier, and more sustainable.
3. What has been your biggest challenge as founder, and how have you learned from it?
To be honest, the slow-moving real estate industry. Even though accelerated by the pandemic, it is hard to stay afloat for a startup in a market with very long sales cycles, hi-touch clients, not much digitization experience, and high expectations of functionalities and interoperability. Also, legacy technology in buildings that are not built for the cloud age has been a blocker at times. But it’s changing, we can see things moving forward and because of our clients that believed in innovation and the importance of #proptech, #tenantexperience #tenenatenegagment, and #hybridworking, we are where we are today.
4. What role has Newlab played in helping you advance spaceOS?
A big one - Newlab is the birthplace of spaceOS! We launched the first MVP at Newlab in 2016, which became NewlabOS, and is powering the Newlab community, its amenities, and services till today. Having the Newlab community support us when we came out of the gates with an idea, was the best thing for us to happen at that time. Basically, the community of innovators and entrepreneurs at Newlab helped us make this vision into reality. Thank you!
